Chelwood Rules

Our regular visitors will know we have tried to create an atmosphere of informality with as little in the way of rules as possible.  Unfortunately, every year something occurs which forces us to add yet another number to our list.  Please help us to keep Chelwood clean and tidy without even more restrictions.

Camp sites
We do not normally allocate specific sites but rely on Leaders to sort out their own preferences.  On a 30 acre site which is always under camped there is plenty of space for everyone.

Wood
Do not cut any live timber we always aim to have a supply of fire wood available.  Please return all unused firewood to the one central wood pile.  Please do not create mini piles around the site.

Fires
Do not dig pits for any reason.  Half bins are provided and must be used. After use - return to the area next to the wood pile.  Making sure they are emptied on the nearby pile and all ashes are cold.

Waste
Burn all waste possible.  A skip is provided for all other rubbish.

Toilets
They must be left clean and tidy.  If there are several Groups using the site it is up to you to organise a rota that works.... Elsan must not be used without specific permission from the Warden.

Dogs
They are not encouraged.  Permission must be gained from the Warden on each occasion.

Cars
In dry weather you may drive to your site and park.  In wet weather all vehicles must stay on the roadway and use the car park.  Otherwise the site will quickly become unusable to others camping after you.  Do not drive unnecessarily on the site.

Boundaries
We enjoy good relations with our neighbours and work hard to maintain them...Please observe the site boundaries and use the official footpaths marked in the local OS map.  Anyone found damaging someone else's property is liable to be evicted from the site immediately and possibly the whole of his Group as well.

Caravans
A small number of caravan are allowed on site but must be notified with the site booking.

Pioneering Poles
Are usually available, free of charge, but must be returned in good condition to the rack behind the barn.  Please supply your own ropes.

Barn
The barn was primarily built to offer alternative wet accommodation to Cubs.  However, when it is not required for this purpose it can be used by all who visit Chelwood.  Please leave it clean and tidy for the next group.

Badges
Woven Chelwood Camp site badges are available from the Warden.

Permission to Camp Forms
We have found an increasing number of Groups Camping at Chelwood without having notified the local District Commissioner.  Please make sure you have done the necessary. if appropriate.  Otherwise you will be camping without permission and could be asked to leave immediately.

Shooting
Due to the potential risks on a site that is not properly Wardened, shooting of firearms of all types is prohibited
