Activity Rules for Leaders

Adventurous Activity Checklist.

Before any adventurous activity can take place, Leaders should familiarise them selves with the Activity rules in Chapter 9 P.O.R.

In order for insurance cover by headquarters to be effective the rules of the association must be complied with, particularly those governing the authorisation of activities, safety precautions applying to activities (Chapter 8  rule 8.3).  To this end before an activity takes place a Leader must ensure that:

  1. The leader of the activity has a current and appropriate authorisation ( a list of those with current authorisation in a District held by the DC and ADC Activities)

  2. An informal risk assessment to establish party members capabilities and experience

  3. The party size in accordance with regulations.

  4. There is an adequate ratio of leaders to young people,

  5. GSL's have been notified of the event,

  6. There is a Home contact who is not related to anyone in the party,

  7. The home contact has been given details of the programme, route and party members,

  8. Parents have been given the details of the home contact,

  9. The party leader has copies of everything the home contact has given,

  10. Parental Consent forms have been signed and returned,

  11. Health forms have been completed,

  12. Notification form submitted to DC

If pr4ocedures are followed we can continue to ensure that any young person within Scouting can undertake exciting and challenging pursuits tailored to best suit their abilities and age.
