PARENTS

Important Information for Parents and Friends

1st Keynsham is a successful Group, but it’s future strength is put in doubt by the shortage of parents willing to assist with all the work that has to be done to keep the Group running. This past year has been a struggle and while Leadership of the Colonies, Packs and Troops remains relatively good  the Group Executive committee urgently needs new members. The Committee Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, and Membership Secretary, all experienced persons, are already in place but they need others to work with them. This is an exciting opportunity to provide for the young people of Keynsham and determine future plans for the Group.

Here are some examples of roles that need to be undertaken. Which one could you do?

  • We need at least 2 parents from each Unit to alternately come along to represent their Unit at the Executive meetings.

  • We need someone to lead the fundraising sub committee and parents to help with the fundraising as subs only raise about 1/3rd of the money the Group requires. As you know, we already have some very successful fundraising activities – eg the annual Auction in November, the road race, the Christmas post and the clay pigeon shoots.

  • We need someone to lead the buildings and grounds sub committee and organise regular working parties in the buildings and grounds. We need people to do the work; to help cut the grass; to keep the grounds tidy; to do the general repairs to the building and the equipment.

  • We need people to open up and close the headquarters daytimes and weekends so that we can raise money by hiring out the building.

  • We need someone to lead on the communications role to let parents know what is happening and make them feel part of the Group

  • We need someone to lead the organisation to celebrate 100 years of Scouting in Keynsham in 2007

  • We need someone to think of a role they can take on which we have not identified yet

Don’t be alone, form a group with your friends and take on a task together. This need not be a regular commitment, but every little will help. All we ask is that you are over 18 years and have a desire to have fun and help others.  Alternatively, if you would prefer to help with either the Colonies, Packs or Troops in any way, please let us know

Should you not be able to assist at this time, we understand.

Thank you for taking the time to read this far.
